Senior Corporate Health and Safety Advisor
Job description
A rare opportunity in an organisation on the cusp of significant health and safety culture change. This new role will report into the Head of Corporate Health and Safety and will have line management responsibility. This is a chance for a passionate and energetic safety professional to progress into management. Ealing is a large diverse and commercially minded
Council. You will be auditing, inspecting and have oversight of, highways, waste, housing, regeneration, as well as social services, schools, leisure, and community safety. In fact all a varied Council has to offer.
You will need to be able to self-manage and thrive in a fast-paced work environment and will be joining a small but strong team and be well supported by colleagues, each of whom have specialist skills. The medium-term aim of the team is cross learning and to become multidisciplinary.
The Corporate Health and Safety (CHS) Team provides a health and safety advisory and support service to council services and assists the senior leadership team and stakeholders in the execution of the statutory duties.
The team is working towards safety leadership and promoting cultural change. You will work with the Head of Corporate Health and Safety in delivering and developing corporate health and safety strategic plans and you’ll be the first point of contact within the CHS team, as and when required by them.
You will be required to support risk reduction priorities within the corporate risk register and implementation of effective strategies for control.
The senior adviser will also undertake a programme of health and safety audits and inspections to evaluate compliance with the Council’s safety management system. You will set action plans and monitor to completion, providing relevant assistance and guidance to managers. An important part of this being to ensure that Council contractors are suitably procured, monitored, and evaluated.
You will need to be an accident investigator and report writer too and be able to lead on projects representing CHS, as required.
It may be necessary at short notice, to support colleagues in an emergency situation and for this reason, we ask that your home is within reasonable travel distance of Ealing.
To be considered for the role you must have the following:
• Excellent understanding of health and safety requirements and application
• NEBOSH Diploma / equivalent / working towards
• Strong background in facilities / property management with multi-site experience
• Positive and enthusiastic attitude
• Good organisational and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of communicating at various levels
If you fit the bill, are up for a challenge, have lots of energy and a 'can-do' attitude, please apply online.
This role is subject to Ealing Council’s enhanced vetting process
